View ArticleA five-level bespoke office building has topped out in only 28 days – much less than the original period allowed for by the builder, Besix Watpac.
The use of Mass Timber was proposed by KIRK as a strategy to reduce the impact on the existing operations of the client's facility by reducing construction noise and utilizing the just in time delivery of the panels to suit the build program.
All mass timber elements are grown and manufactured from Australian timber products, supplied by Xlam and Hyne Timber – one of the first buildings to do so in Australia.
The use of load bearing CLT wall panels replaced the usual GLT structural columns. This provided an opportunity to dramatically improve the thermal and acoustic performance of the envelope. The large format windows replace the continuous curtain wall glazing of the typical office improving the workspace planning and enhancing views through the frames.
