JCU Technology and Innovation Complex (TIC) Strong Floor & Garage
A construction milestone has been achieved for the JCU Technology and Innovation Complex (TIC) with the completion of the 14m x 6m Destructive Testing Strong Floor. This world class engineering & research facility provides simultaneous load capacities of 1000kN to perform precision destructive testing of structural elements. The 800mm deep structure is supported by a dense column grid and requires precise uniformity for the assembly of testing equipment. A complex construction challenge met by Besix Watpac.
Impressive volumes are also now visible for one of the next generation pedagogical and innovation spaces in the JCU Technology and Innovation Complex (TIC). The double-height Garage space provides an industry hub that encourages engagement with the wider university community. It’s position at the front door to both the building and campus is testament to JCU’s commitment to new pedagogies and building models where rich and varied activities are made visible and connected. The Garage is a deliberately unstructured space that encourages student led project-based exploration and collaboration.
