JCU TIC is a significant transformative building for the JCU Townsville campus – and establishes a new benchmark for sustainability and resilient building in the tropics.
JCU TIC uses a bespoke glulam (GLT) facade system that provides complete cyclone debris impact resistance without conventional protective screening. This innovation provides abundant daylighting and transparency – a challenge of tropical settings and an imperative for leading educational facilities.
JCU TIC will achieve a LEED Gold sustainability rating – a notable target following the substantial increase in energy performance compliance required by NCC 2019. It is the first building to target and achieve this standard in the tropics.
JCU TIC brings world class engineering research and teaching facilities to Far North Queensland - including the 14 x 6m Destructive Testing Strong Floor and Reaction Wall. Construction of these key elements continues with precision by Besix Watpac.
