When two pharmaceutical manufacturers joined forces to share one inner city manufacturing facility, Lendlease development presented KIRK with a unique opportunity for design innovation: How might we accommodate two separate organisations, each with individual pharmaceutical processes and requirements, on a highly constrained urban site?
World-class, vertically stacked urban manufacturing facility
KIRK designed a cutting-edge facility that offers efficiencies in space and energy usage without compromising the diverse manufacturing needs of each organisation.
The project’s master plan is responsive to the dynamic urban context and balances internal needs with external opportunities. Typically, manufacturing facilities are built for sprawling industrial areas. For this project, the facilities are co-located and vertically stacked in response to urban site constraints. The design integrates natural and open elements, encouraging human activity on the ground plane and creating a sense of arrival and place.
The transparent façade of team breakout spaces celebrates people as the heart of the “manufacturing machine” and offers a window into the thriving hub of activity, adding to the vibrancy of the inner-city surrounds.
KIRK’s expertise in briefing and extensive engagement with internal and external stakeholders ensured an exceptional outcome for operators, team and community.
