KIRK wins international design competition for De Le Salle University (DLSU) Laguna Campus Expansion
Envisioning De Le Salle University 's Laguna Campus
KIRK has won the opportunity to design a state-of-the-art academic complex at the heart of De La Salle University's (DLSU) Laguna Campus expansion, together with our local design partner SAGE Group Asia.
DLSU is one of the oldest and most respected catholic education institutions in the Philippines. Situated on a secured 50-hectare campus, the Laguna campus is envisioned to become a key resource for scientific and technological advancements in the Philippines.
The new Laguna Academic Complex comprises two new buildings: the Enrique Razon Jr. Logistics Institute and the Academic Building Phase 1.
Our design response sets a new benchmark in tropical design and brings together the five core principles of Lassallian schools and 21st century learning trends.
The Complex is a catalyst project setting the design direction for the DLSU Laguna Campus expansion master plan.
Design highlights
- Living atria - A central rainforest atrium is at the heart of the building, supporting natural ventilation.
- Biophilic design - The design integrates with the landscape and features lush, open spaces throughout, providing diffused daylighting and maximum airflow.
- Typhoon and earthquake resistant - The concrete structure is durable and designed specifically for the tropical climate, grounded in performative analysis completed by KIRK's unique Advanced Building's and Cities research wing.
- Modern learning design - The design activates informal social learning hubs, supports flexibility in function, and maximises transparency to put learning on display.
- Master planning integration - This project involved master planning to connect the site to the existing campus infrastructure.
