We are thrilled to announce The Arc was the recipient of the Educational Architecture Award at the 2019 International Chapter Architecture Awards held in Dubai.⠀

The Arc was completed in association with our local partners DCA Architects.

Award: 2019 International Chapter Award for Educational Architecture

‘The Arc’ at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore, is the first large scale successful realisation of a naturally ventilated education building in the tropics. The building features deep external verandahs – 30 percent of the floor area – while maintaining indoor space that allows airflow.

The Arc is has been termed 'A building that breathes' as its design utilises passive cooling, achieved by the curvilinear ‘Arc’ building form, and employs Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technology to deliver comfortable naturally ventilated spaces. Additionally, The Arc utilises low energy Passive Displacement Ventilation for internal spaces, embracing tropical climate and landscape.

The jury [was] convinced of the elegance of the 'skin and verandah' concept in which the louvred skin is confidently framed between the fluid horizontals of an upper and lower projecting eaves line. The jury judges call the complex 'a substantial contribution to the genre' of sustainable buildings.
