View ArticleThe Mon Repos Turtle Centre provides a world class, year round operation for ecotourism and research and supports the economic and tourism objectives of the Bundaberg region.
The design is heavily influenced by the specific turtle considerations in terms of lighting. To ensure zero light spill, an enclosed form was developed with a considered and adjustable permeability based on the season and time of day.
The grand opening of the new Mon Repos Turtle Centre in Bundaberg was held on Saturday 23rd of November, 2019.

The building had to be constructed between the annual turtle nesting seasons – a period of only 7 months, and the need for the structure and building fabric to withstand the corrosive sea air and seasonal cyclones with a design life of over 40 years.

We endeavoured to make a building using a renewable material that is locally sourced (Queensland Spotted Gum) and manufactured (within 2 hours of the site). Through digital pre-fabrication as well we were able to ensure a precise structure and minimise the on-site construction time frame.
